Staycation deal in Singapore!

Recently i booked a rather last minute staycation at Holiday Inn Express. By last minute, i mean just the night before and i got rather good deal for it! All thanks to this app that my friend introduced to me - HotelQuickly. By the way, this is not a sponsored post and i'm not paid to rave about this app, just wanna share with you guys and at the same time, earn some credit if you guys use my referral code to book your staycation! I'm being very honest about this. LOLOLOLOL

I'm a huge fan of staycation because you get to spend a night or two out of your own house and stay at a brand new place with nothing much to care about, enjoy the facilities and recharge for the next day. The staycation that i booked at Holiday Inn Express, Clarke Quay has an infinity pool and it even comes with free breakfast for 2. I used the HotelQuickly app to book and saved $79 off the usual rate PLUS another $30 as i used my friend's referral code. That's a total of $109 off the actual price. Not to mention that the prices stated in the app are already at discounted price :)

I really did enjoy myself with my friends that day. Spending time in the comfy bed watching TV, spending my evening in the infinity pool (and taking instagram-worthy photos!) and waking up to a buffet spread. I can totally get used to this.

Once again, the app is called "HotelQuickly" and it's quite idiot proof. Once you enter the app, they will show you a range of hotels available with their discounted rate. (I spotted really awesome deals from boutique hotels such as Studio M, Wanderlust, New Majestic and more!) From there you choose the no. of days you want to stay and pay via the app itself. Note that this app is not for advance booking but more for next day booking. Once the booking is confirmed, just appeared at the hotel before the check-in time and enjoy your staycation! I would say it's really quick and easy! :D

Lastly, to get free one-time SGD$30 credit to offset your booking, use the following code:
"AKWAN8"

Enjoy!

冲上云霄: Triumph into the skies Gala Premiere!

When i first saw the email invitation to the gala premiere of 冲上云霄 movie, i rsvp-ed almost instantaneously. It has been about 11 years since i first watched the first drama serial on TV and i totally love the show! Till today, i can still sing along to the official theme song - "岁月如歌" by Eason. Fast forward 11 years, and 2 drama series later, here comes the movie. For this gala premiere, not only i get to watch the movie before it's being screened in cinemas, i get to meet 2 of the cast - Julian Cheung (张智霖) better known as Chilam, and Charmaine Sheh (佘诗曼) in person! Super excited :D

By the way, the gala premiere was held at Marina Bay Sands. At about 8pm, the 2 stars arrived at the red carpet and the next thing you know, all the camera phones and hands were in the air, everyone was trying to get a good shot of them, LOL There is always this unreal feeling when celebrities that you have always been seeing on screen are suddenly right in front of you in real life. The photo above is the clearest i could get with my iPhone. Lazy to bring out my cam :|
 photo Photo 16-2-15 8 01 48 pm.jpg
Had a mini Q&A session with the host as well as photo taking with the audience :)

We then proceeded to the MasterCard Theaters for the movie. When i first learnt that the screening will be at MBS, the first question i had in my head was, "MBS got cinema meh?" Apparently they converted one of their theater to a "cinema" to screen the movie. The theater is like 3 level high. Just before the movie commence, both Julian Cheung and Charmaine Sheh came out to talk slightly about their role in the movie and also to give their CNY greetings to everyone.

In cinemas from 19 February onwards.

Overall i really liked this movie. It brought back the memories when i first started watching the series 11 years ago. There were familiar faces in the cast, especially Francis Ng, (吴镇宇) This movie typically revolves around 3 relationships and i love the cinematic used in this movie to portray the romance. Out of the 3 romance stories, i specially love the romance between Louis Koo (古天乐) and Charmaine Sheh (佘诗曼) because it felt real and you see how they managed to get back together eventually. (spoiler alert) However i wished the show was in Cantonese instead (mainly because i grew up watching the previous 2 series in Cantonese, LOL) Definitely a must watch is you are a fan of the series. 冲上云霄 opens in cinemas from 19 February onwards, be sure to catch the "flight"! :D

Happy CNY!

老花眼? Fret not - CooperVision Proclear 1-day Multifocal Contact Lens!

[Sponsored Post]

Contact lenses has always been part of my life ever since i put on my very first trial pair when i was about 16. I still remember i took about 30 mins trying again and again to put these 2 thin films into my eyes. Since then, i wore monthly contact lens and eventually moved on to dailies as i was simply not disciplined enough to religiously wash my contact lens properly at the end of each day, and i always forget to get new lens container and solution. Dailies are definitely much more expensive but the good thing about daily lens is that, you can just throw them away at the end of the day :)
Enough of my little contact lens journey story. Have you guys heard of the term "presbyopia"? Well, it's commonly known to us as "老花眼" (Lao hua yan) and it occurs to people at around 40 to 45 where they noticed that their vision is blurry when looking at objects up close. Do you have anyone around you that has presbyopia? CooperVision now has daily contact lenses that are catered for people who has presbyopia. With the Proclear 1 day multifocal lens, everything now becomes much clearer for them be it reading the little fonts on newspaper or reading emails from your mobile devices.

Not forgetting to mention (again) that they are daily lenses so at the end of the day, just throw the old pair away and put on a fresh new pair the very next day! The Proclear 1 day multifocal lens stays 96% hydrated throughout the day, even after 12 hours of wear so you can expect it to be comfortable and it helps to address eye dryness and itchiness! :)

If you are plagued with this condition or would like to introduce the CooperVision Proclear 1-day Multifocal Contact Lens to your family/ friends, why not sign up for the FREE 5 Day Trial over at this link: http://coopervision.com.sg/trial-lenses and the promotion ends on 8th April 2015. Some additional info that you need to know on this promo is that:

  • The $15 can be used to offset the purchase of a minimum of 2 boxes of PC1DMF @ $150.

Sin Lee Foods at Tiong Bahru!

Every now and then we hear about new cafes popping out all around Singapore and the most mainstream way of getting to know these cafes would be through instagram. It's like when you scroll through your feed and you see photos of same cafe/ food appearing again and again, you can't help it but want to try it yourself. Well, this is exactly what happened to me. In this case, 2 food items from Sin Lee Foods kept appearing. #1: Salted Egg Sweet Potato Fries (why is everything salted egg nowadays?!) #2: Fried Chicken with Waffle. Everyone is like raving how good these dishes are and they are a must try. So i decided to ask Angie and Fenny if they want to head down to Tiong Bahru to try out the food :)

We weren't exactly very hungry so we thought of ordering the "must order" items recommended by the hipsters on instagram (which are mostly the sides) and for drinks, i ordered a hot chocolate for myself. Was secretly happy that they made the effort to do coffee art even on hot chocolate. So instagram worthy. + points. Chio swan leh, LOLOLOL
 photo IMG_2781.jpg
Spam Fries ($7) Not one of the must order items but i just felt like having luncheon meat. HAHAHA
 photo IMG_2784.jpg
Salted Egg Sweet Potato Fries ($11) If you go look at the geo-tag of Sin Lee on instagram, 70% of the photos are probably photos of this dish. I was expecting it to be really really good but then i felt that the salted egg sauce was too thick and towards the bottom of the dish, there wasn't much sauce left. But overall still a pretty good dish, quite tasty.
 photo IMG_2788.jpg
Aburi Broccoli Salad ($10) This dish is basically smokey torched broccoli served with white balsamic, papadum and red sugar. They even have a disclaimer on their menu saying - "Trust us on this, you'll want more" Actually we ordered this dish because the truffle pops that i want to try was not available. People on instagram even claimed that even people who don't eat veggies/ broccoli will enjoy this dish. Honestly, this dish makes a pretty good appetizer. The broccoli are torched till light and fluffy so it's very "airy" when you bite into them, not like how you usually will find them - thick and chunky. I'm not sure about the combi of the other ingredients though. Just eat with a bit of everything i guess, LOLOL
 photo IMG_2786.jpg
Fried Chicken and Waffle ($21.90) Not exactly cheap but we still had to order it anyway, HAHA Probably the only place that serves chicken on waffles with coleslaw. The combination of fried chicken and waffles is pretty good, and i quite like the maple butter sauce (even though both fenny and angie hated it) The chicken had a slight plastic-y taste though. Definitely very insta-worthy dish but for the price of $21.90, i might re-consider ordering it again. If i'm ever back here.

That's all i have for this post. I probably tried every of the "must try" dishes of this cafe (except for the truffle pop that wasn't available that day. Sad) and that's another cafe in my list down! Checkout my whole list of cafes that i visited over at http://www.imandystorm.com/2014/02/cafe-hopping-in-singapore.html  I just realised i still got a couple of cafes blog post. Pardon me for the sudden food related blog post, i will try and finish up all my overdue posts such as my Phuket travelogue! I realised i have been neglecting my blog recently :(
